Combined with Bio-Core restorative material, this technique helps create a strong foundation for the tooth while taking a more conservative approach to treatment.

What is Ribbond ?

Think of Ribbond as reinforcement from the inside out.

Ribbond is an ultra-high-strength polyethylene fiber that is bonded within a dental restoration to help support and stabilize a weakened tooth. The technology behind Ribbond is derived from the same proven fiber-laminate-composite technology used to make boat hulls and airplane body components.

Instead of simply filling the damaged area, your dentist creates a fiber-reinforced restoration designed to better manage the forces your tooth experiences when you bite and chew.

Despite its impressive strength, Ribbond is extremely thin. Once your restoration is complete, the fibers are contained within the restoration, so you won't see or feel them - just a natural-looking tooth with added internal reinforcement.

What is Bio-Core ?

Bio-Core is a tooth-colored core build-up material used to rebuild areas of a tooth that have been lost or weakened by decay, cracks, previous dental work, or root canal treatment. It creates a strong foundation that can support the tooth and its final restoration.

When used together, Ribbond reinforces and Bio-Core rebuilds. Ribbond fibers are bonded within the tooth to provide internal reinforcement, while Bio-Core is placed around the reinforced structure to rebuild the missing portions of the tooth.

Your doctor carefully removes decay or failing restorative material while preserving healthy tooth structure whenever possible. The Ribbond + Bio-Core restoration can then be shaped and prepared for the final restoration, such as a dental crown.

Dental crowns remain an excellent and often necessary treatment for many severely damaged teeth. Because a crown is designed to cover the tooth, however, some of the existing tooth structure typically needs to be reshaped to create the proper fit.

When appropriate, Ribbond + Bio-Core offers a different approach. Instead of covering the entire tooth, the damaged or weakened areas are rebuilt and reinforced from within, helping the tooth better handle the everyday pressure of biting and chewing.

Remove the Damage

Any decay, failing restorative material, or compromised tooth structure will be removed while preserving as much of your healthy natural tooth as possible. This creates a clean, stable foundation for your restoration.

Reinforce the Tooth

When appropriate, Ribbond polyethylene fibers will be bonded directly into the restoration to reinforce weakened or compromised areas of the tooth. These strong, flexible fibers help provide additional support while allowing us to preserve more of your natural tooth structure.

Rebuild the Tooth
