					What's the Difference Between All-On-X and 3-On-6?

If you’ve been researching ways to restore your smile, you’ve likely come across the All-on-X and 3-on-6 dental implant systems. Both are modern solutions designed to replace missing teeth and bring back your confidence — but they differ in structure, maintenance, and overall investment.
At Stubbs Dental, we know this decision can feel overwhelming. That’s why we believe in full transparency when it comes to your options, outcomes, and cost. Our goal is to help you feel informed and confident every step of the way.
The All-on-X system (often referred to as All-on-4 or All-on-6) uses four to six implants to support one continuous full-arch bridge. The “X” simply means the number of implants can vary based on your unique needs and bone structure.
Key Features of All-on-X Dental Implants:
-
Uses four to six implants to anchor a single, full-arch bridge
-
Works beautifully even for patients with less bone density
-
Offers a streamlined treatment process with faster recovery
-
Provides strong, lasting support and natural aesthetics
-
Typically more cost-effective than the 3-on-6 system
-
Easier to clean and maintain for long-term comfort
Key Features of 3-on-6 Dental Implants:
-
Six implants support three bridges, replacing a full upper or lower arch
-
Requires excellent bone density for long-term stability
-
Can involve a higher upfront cost due to multiple restorations
-
May require more detailed cleaning and maintenance
- Average 3-on-6 dental implant cost in Utah typically starts in the mid–five-figure range
While the 3-on-6 system can be a good solution for some patients, it’s not always the most efficient or cost-effective approach for full-arch or full-mouth dental implant replacement. Our team of experts recommends the All-on-X solution instead, as it offers superior stability, long-term results, and streamlined treatment. For that reason, we do not perform the 3-on-6 procedure at our clinics.
We want our patients to be fully informed about all of their options. During your complimentary consultation, we’re happy to discuss the pros and cons of both procedures to help you make the best decision for your smile.
Understanding What Goes Into Utah Dental Implant Pricing
Preparatory Procedures
Some people need surgical or non-surgical procedures to prepare for dental implants to ensure long-term success. These can include:
- Gum disease treatment
- Bone grafting
- Sinus lifts
- Tooth extractions
- Other prep work as needed
Number of Implants
The number of implants you need directly affects your total cost. For example:
- Single tooth replacement usually requires just one implant
- Implant-supported dentures like the All-on-X may need four or more implants
- More implants = higher overall cost, but often better support for full smile restoration
Size of Your Restoration
The size and type of your dental restoration can impact the total cost:
- Single crowns for one missing tooth cost less
- Full mouth dental implants like All-on-X cost more than a single implant
- Material choice (zirconia, acrylic, etc.) also affects pricing
Type of Sedation
Sedation type can affect the overall cost of treatment:
- Nitrous and oral sedation are the most affordable
- IV sedation costs more and is used for longer procedures
- An anesthesiologist is available for deeper sedation at Stubbs Dental
- Full-mouth dental implants often require IV sedation for comfort
